The
press, liberal and conservative alike, have been making a big deal about how
little we know of Donald Trump’s positions, and how “dangerous” he would be
since we don’t know where he stands on major issues. Apparently they don’t read books. Donald Trump wrote (probably ghostwritten with
someone else, as most political books are) Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again, released in Nov 2015, and
available to anyone – even journalists – on Amazon.com. It makes pretty clear what he thinks the
major issues are, and how he might approach them.
He
also wrote several other books, including The Art of the Deal, which give a
pretty good insight into his personality.
And what comes across in that book is pretty consistent with what we have
seen on the campaign trail – a brash, bright, outspoken, highly successful New
York entrepreneur who is a pragmatist, not ideological, neither a conservative
wingnut nor a bleeding-heart liberal, a doer, a very good persuader and self-publicist, and relatively risk-averse.
The
opposition - liberal and conservative alike - is certainly free to disagree with his views, but to claim that they
don’t know his views simply makes them look stupid – read his book!
