Recommended: The Poorest 20% of Americans Are Richer on Average Than Most Nations of Europe

The website Just Facts (a center-right organization which is rated pretty reliable in its facts, if a little biased rightward in its language) has an interesting study entitled The Poorest 20% of Americans Are Richer on Average Than Most Nations of Europe. It is a response to an New York Times article dissing America. But it looks to me like they have done their research from reputable sources (the OECD, the World Bank, etc) and the conclusions are interesting.
